BOTH DOGS AND CATS

are welcome at Selvær. There is still a small "but": Here on our bird island we strongly recommend banding in the period April 1st to October 1st.

We also have a particularly vulnerable period in early summer; that is, throughout May and into the month of July. This is when the eider nests on the ground and then has a longer period with young that are very exposed, both on land and in water.

Therefore, we ask both dog and cat owners - yes; also cats - to keep the four-legged guest on a leash, not only on Selvær, but also on the islets around us.

Why also for cats? Unfortunately, they have a ability to sneak into the eider nests that are found all over the island, and then take either the mother - which lies on eggs - or also the defenseless young birds.
